According to CCTV News, during this year’s summer travel rush, reporters have discovered many new technologies on the road that are making our travel more and more convenient. For instance, when it comes to highway travel, an increasing number of super fast-charging stations across the country have alleviated the anxiety many new energy vehicle owners once felt about charging.

At a service area on the Beijing-Kunming Expressway, located southwest of Beijing, the reporter noticed a dedicated supercharger station for electric vehicles. At these fast-charging stations, it takes only half an hour to charge the battery to 80% capacity. There are also two additional supercharger stations nearby. For newer electric vehicles, if their batteries are compatible with the charging protocol, they can achieve a range of 1 kilometer per second of charging, meaning that after 10 minutes of charging, they can travel 500 to 600 kilometers. This is equivalent to the time it takes for you to get off the vehicle, buy a bottle of water, use the restroom, and stretch your legs.

The reporter noticed that photovoltaic panels were installed on the roof of this super fast-charging station, along the highway slopes, and even on the roofs of the service areas. According to the staff, these photovoltaic panels can generate 1.15 million kWh of green electricity annually. This amount of electricity can not only meet the energy demand of this super charging station but also satisfy the daily electricity consumption of the entire service area.

Currently, various regions are accelerating the construction of fast-charging and ultra-fast charging stations. Not long ago, the National Development and Reform Commission, the National Energy Administration, and other agencies jointly issued the “Notice on Promoting the Scientific Planning and Construction of High-power Charging Facilities”, proposing that by the end of 2027, efforts should be made to ensure that there are over 100,000 high-power charging facilities with a single-gun charging power of over 250 kilowatts nationwide. Meanwhile, some regions have begun piloting mobile charging stations, which can provide fast-charging services on-site upon appointment, transforming from “people seeking charging stations” to “charging stations seeking people”, further alleviating the range anxiety of new energy vehicle owners during long-distance travel.
