Recently, Tesla announced the fourth part of its “Grand Plan”: to create products and services that bring artificial intelligence into the real world, achieve unlimited sustainable development, and accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable prosperity. Since Tesla’s inception, every iteration of our master plan has focused on our North Star: sustainability without compromise.

Humans are tool makers. At Tesla, we produce physical products at scale and low cost, with the goal of making everyone’s life better.

With the increasing impact and impact of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, it should come as no surprise that the tasks proposed in Part IV of the Grand Plan should be unexpected.

The next chapter in Tesla’s story will help us create a world that we are just beginning to imagine and will achieve on a scale we have not yet seen. We are building products and services that bring AI to the real world.

For nearly two decades, we have been working tirelessly to lay the foundation for this technological renaissance by developing electric vehicles, energy products, and humanoid robots.

We are unifying our hardware and software at scale, and by doing so, we are creating a safer, cleaner, and more enjoyable world.

Growth is limitless

Growth in one area does not mean decline in another. Resource shortages can be compensated for by improving technology, increasing innovation, and new ideas.

The technology that gives us the ability to power machines has sparked the Industrial Revolution, expanding our economic landscape and creating more opportunities for all. Groundbreaking inventions like semiconductors and the internet have expanded — not reduced — social and economic opportunities in all aspects of the human experience, from creating more jobs to providing more access to information to deepening human relationships.

We aspire to go beyond what is considered achievable, which will foster the growth needed for truly sustainable abundance.

Innovation removes constraints

For centuries, the main means of transportation for humans was horses. Then, over the past fifty years, fossil fuel-powered internal combustion engine vehicles have become the standard and expected mode of transportation. The idea that batteries are cheap to produce and large enough to wean the transportation industry from dependence on fossil fuels seems futile — until Tesla leads the way.

Through continuous innovation, we have overcome the technical limitations of battery development and established an industry powered by renewable resources.

Technology solves tangible problems

Accelerating the journey to sustainable abundance will drive human progress by solving real-world problems. To further accelerate our innovation, every product we produce is more efficient and sustainable than the last.

Solar power and large-scale battery storage are improving the availability and reliability of clean electricity in our communities – and at a lower cost and more sustainable.

Autonomous vehicles have the power to dramatically improve the affordability, availability, and safety of transportation while reducing pollution, especially in our increasingly dense global cities.

Our autonomous humanoid robot, Optimus Prime, has changed not only the perception of labor itself, but also its usability and capabilities. Jobs and tasks that are particularly monotonous or dangerous can now be done in other ways. In this way, Optimus Prime’s mission is to give people more time to do what they love.

Autonomy must benefit all mankind

The tools we make at Tesla help us make products that promote human prosperity.

How we develop and use autonomy – and the new capabilities it provides us – should be inspired by its ability to improve the human condition. Making everyday life better and safer for all through our autonomous driving technology has always been and will continue to be our focus.

To build a prosperous and unfettered society, it is necessary to manufacture technologically advanced products that are reasonably priced and accessible at scale. It helps to further democratize society while improving everyone’s quality of life in the process. The hallmark of meritocracy is the creation of opportunities that allow everyone to use their skills to accomplish anything they imagine.

Everyone deserves these opportunities, and the development of technology can help ensure that each of us can maximize our most limited resource: time.

We are accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable abundance

We must be clear: this challenge will be extremely difficult to overcome. Eliminating scarcity requires tireless and meticulous execution. Some would think it’s impossible. There are also many who will praise every obstacle and setback that we inevitably encounter on our life path. But once we overcome this challenge, our critics will see that what they once thought was impossible is actually possible. This is fine for us, because most importantly, together we want to create a sustainable and truly prosperous future for future generations.

All worthwhile trips are long, and they all start with the first steps

Our first step was to build an exciting sports car. We then use those profits to make money for more affordable, but still exciting products—the Model S and Model x (parameter |RFQ) – finance the development and production of. We then repeated the process to launch the Model 3 and Model Y, among other products.

This process requires us to take many steps, some small and some large. But in the end, every win leads to another, and even if we lose, we can maintain the momentum. Our momentum allows us to build a fully integrated ecosystem of sustainable products, from transportation to energy production, battery storage and robotics.

Today, we are on the cusp of a revolutionary period, ready for unprecedented growth. This time, it will not be a small step for Tesla and all of humanity, but a big one. The tools we’ll develop will help us build a world we’ve always dreamed of – a world of sustainable abundance – that works for all at scale by redefining the fundamental building blocks of workforce, mobility, and energy.
